About
I'm a cabinetmaker and woodworker, and I work out of my studio in Emyvale, Prince Edward Island. I studied cabinetry at Holland College, and I work alone, so I take every piece from rough board to finished surface myself.
I make custom furniture and functional woodwork: dining and coffee tables, stools, sculptural pieces, cabinetry, pantries, built-ins and architectural timber details. I often work in walnut, cherry, maple and ash, and in other woods when a piece needs them.
Some commissions start from a customer's idea, and others from my own designs. I'm happy to take on either.
In the studio
I work with wood because it's so versatile. A good piece can be something you use every day and something you stop to admire at the same time.
My studio is a fairly small space, with a separate building for finishing. I set it up to be somewhere I could work freely, and over the years it has become more of a studio than a shop.
My woodworking started with a year-long course at Holland College. From there I moved toward hardwood furniture and smaller craft pieces, and that work led me to more artistic projects: functional art furniture and carving, in a style that's my own.
